Dubai Marina
Dubai Marina is located exactly in front of JLT, on the opposite side of Sheikh Zayed Road (main street in the UAE that stretches along the whole city and finishes in Abu Dhabi). Marina was built along an artificial canal and is almost 3 km long. Similarly to JLT, the construction of the district started in 2003 and was finished in 2007, although there are still some unfinished buildings. It’s an apartment area, but is also full of hotels, boutiques, bars, restaurants and coffee shops. Most of the apartment buildings is 250 to 300 meters high, some go even up to 400.

Around the lake, or canal, stretches Marina Walk, an almost 7 km path, along which there are many restaurants and coffee shops. It’s a great place for a walk and dinner. In one of the sides of Marina you can see many boats, mainly exclusive yachts. It’s one of my favorite places in Dubai. Check for more information here.

On the other side of the canal, on the beach side there is the district called JBR – Jumeirah Beach Residence. It’s a fast growing exclusive part of Dubai, full of hotels, bar and restaurants. Along the coast there is a brand new retail complex called The Beach: 70 shops and restaurants in modern and tasteful buildings, with a lot of space to sit outside and admire the sea. A bit posh, not the cheapest, but definitely worth seeing.

It’s also a good place to go sun-bathing; however, the main beach is usually quite crowded. Unfortunately, currently the view on the open sea is obstructed by a new construction – an artificial island with a huge ferris wheel Dubai Eye is being built right in front of the main area.
